We are a group of animal and ocean lovers with a passion for sustainability. Based in the San Juan Islands, we spend quite a lot of time on the water, both looking at sea life and buying it to cook. On this site, you’ll find information about all the whales – and other sea life! – you can see when you visit the San Juan Islands. We’ll be writing little profiles of the whales we love seeing, like the Orca, Humpback, and Gray whales. These islands also have plenty of sea lions, minkes, salmon, and crabs, all of which are a delight to see – and, sometimes, to eat!
In addition to discussing our favorite marine animals, we want to devote some of this site to writing about conservation and sustainability efforts. As many of you know, sea life populations around the world are in trouble. As the climate warms and bycatch from commercial fishing tangle up the wrong creatures, we’re seeing fewer and fewer of our favorite animals. That said, there are some pretty amazing initiatives and organizations out there doing incredible work, from non-profit organizations to sustainable seafood companies. We want to highlight the amazing efforts from these places while also bringing to surface information about how much farther we have to go.
